Hi, I'm Mary-Jane - although everyone calls me MJ - and I'm the furniture obsessive, designer and refinisher behind Blanche Furniture.

Based in Bournemouth, the “Sunny” part of the UK, I specialise in transforming Nathan Furniture into bespoke Mid-Century Modern pieces that are anything but boring.

How it all started

My furniture refinishing journey began back in 2017, when I started painting vintage mirrors as a hobby in my spare time.

That quickly turned into painting pretty much anything I could get my hands on. I experimented with different furniture brands, styles and eras, but somehow I always found myself coming back to Nathan.

And there was a reason for that.

Why Nathan?

Nathan is one of those furniture brands that just gets better with age.

Beautiful teak, clever design, gorgeous curves and seriously good bones. Originally designed and made in Britain, Nathan pieces are built with the quality and craftsmanship that makes them worth giving a whole new lease of life.

And that's where I come in.

I take those iconic Mid-Century designs and give them a modern twist - combining the original character of the piece with bold colour, luxurious finishes and bespoke details.

Think statement colour. Beautiful interiors. Gorgeous hardware. Unexpected combinations.

Bespoke by design

Every piece I create is made to order and finished with an obsessive eye for detail.

From paint colour and colour-matching to luxury interior linings, handles, hardware, legs and detailing, you get to decide how far you want to take it.

Some clients want something beautifully understated.

Others want a piece that walks into the room and demands attention.

I'm equally happy with both.

I also create a limited number of ready-to-ship pieces, each one designed to be a statement in its own right.

Why Blanche Furniture?

I don't believe great furniture should be disposable.

Nathan was built to last - I'm simply giving it another chapter.

My aim is to create furniture that feels considered, individual and completely at home in yours. Pieces with history, personality and a little bit of attitude.

Because classic doesn't have to mean conservative.
